Masala Chai: A Spicy and Aromatic Indian Tea
Masala tea is a delicious Indian beverage made with black tea, milk, sugar and spices. There are different ways to make masala tea, but here is one simple recipe you can try:
- Crush 1 inch cinnamon, 2 to 3 green cardamoms, 2 cloves and 1 inch peeled ginger in a mortar and pestle or a spice grinder.
- Heat 2 cups of water in a saucepan and bring it to a boil. Add the crushed spices and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes on low to medium heat.
- Add 2 teaspoons of black tea powder or 2 tea bags and let it brew for 1 to 2 minutes, depending on how strong you like your tea.
- Add 1 cup of milk and 2 to 4 teaspoons of sugar, or as per your taste. Stir well and bring it to a boil again. Turn off the heat and strain the tea into cups.
